Evo's Holiday Address: A Call To Action
Source: Evo Street Racers President
Release Date: December 16, 2009
Update / Revision: N/A
Illegal street racing is an underground activity which makes it very challenging to determine how many people participate in it. Estimates based on police agencies reports, underground publications and websites, media accounts, and Evo Street Racers (Evo) internal databases suggest that the number of people involved in illegal street racing nationally and in the world has grown substantially in the last decade.
While illegal street racing seemed to decline in the 1980’s it has rebounded in recent years at a cost far higher than the welfare of the participants. Illegal Street Racing, by its very nature, involves placing innocent motorists and pedestrians at risk of injury or even death and can also include illegal gambling, theft, noise disturbances, vandalism, and public property damage. Illegal street racers often face additional charges related to the illegal act including traffic citations, trespassing fines, and illegal automobile modification fines resulting in the vehicle being impounded. Arguments over illegal street races have also resulted in incidents that have led to charges of assault and battery.
Illegal Street Racing is a high risk, secretive, largely spontaneous, young-adult based activity that is extremely difficult for law enforcement professionals to investigative, infiltrate, and patrol. An illegal street racing sting/investigation requires many of the same processes and resources as other major crimes involving a dedicated task force, inter-departmental cooperation, and coordinating with other agencies for information and action.
It is for these reasons why Evo Street Racers seeks to make sure that each state and related agency in the world is focused on taking this crime seriously and is motivated to take corrective and meaningful action.
In conjunction with Evo Street Racers “Evolution Solution,” we are currently urging state and national public officials across the globe to support the formation of a task force to address the illegal activity. This task force is to be comprised of all the major stakeholders: motorsports tracks, motorsports businesses, motorsports sanctioning bodies, educational institutions, law enforcement, prosecutors, transportation departments, and large motorsports clubs. The task force will identify the root cause of the problem as it applies to their specific region, the events and motorsports facilities best able to promote sustainable and viable alternatives to the street, the laws and enforcement techniques that can be passed to deter the illegal act, and educational resources that can be allocated to teach safe and responsible driving.
The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it. -Albert Einstein-
The illegal street racing problem affects all measures and areas of society as it has been reported in rural, suburban, and urban settings around the globe. Action is needed now more than ever. It is as much Evo’s job as it is each person to make the effort to contact your local public officials, law enforcement, and motorsports community to petition for corrective action.
Join hands with Evo Street Racers as we act as the force of change needed to promote the automotive motorsport culture while sustaining the peace of communities across the globe.
All The Best,

...........President: Evo Street Racers
