73 people cited for street racing Source: Rocky Mountain News Commerce City police cited 73 people Sunday for participating in an illegal street race. Officers with Commerce City special investigative unit learned of the race being planned for Sunday in the 5400 block of Eeast 48th Street and staked it out with members of the Denver police. More than 120 people showed up to participate in the race, police said. Seventy three were cited for aiding and facilitating a speed contest, a misdemeanor. Three people were arrested — two for false reporting, and one for interference. Most of the participants were between the ages of 17 to 24. Six cars were towed. Two were seized because they were actively racing, while the other four were because the drivers either had a suspended license or did not have valid insurance. Seven other vehicles got flat tires from stop sticks when their drivers tried to flee the area when officers arrived.
