Jun. 23--Millions of dollars in state grants will soon be available for beefed-up enforcement against illegal street racing in the region.
The California Office of Traffic Safety announced Friday that $4.4 million will be available to county law enforcement agencies.
Grants are funding various programs and campaigns that include the "Click It or Ticket" campaign and sobriety checkpoints.
Illegal street racing is believed to have been involved in an Elk Grove crash last year that killed a 15-year-old boy.
Clinton Grant Colon, 19, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of second-degree murder and reckless driving in connection with the June 2, 2006, incident.
Colon allegedly was driving a white Camaro north on Franklin Boulevard at speeds of more than 100 mph when his car collided with a Honda Accord, cutting the Honda in half.
Colon, who is in custody without bail, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Sacramento Superior Court. If convicted, he faces life in prison.
