Pedestrian Killed, Motorcyclist Injured In Wreck On Market Street Bridge Source: The Chattanoogan One person was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle wreck on Barton Avenue in North Chattanooga on Friday afternoon. Witnesses said it appeared a vehicle that went out of control was racing another car. The fatal wreck was at the intersection of Barton and Dugdale Street. The victim was identified as Harold Timmis, 41, of 6225 Dayton Blvd. Investigators talked with witnesses who said a yellow Ford Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed south on Barton Avenue. The vehicle went out of control around a curve, crossed the double yellow line and struck a Toyota 4 Runner traveling north on Barton Avenue. Mr. Timmis was pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger in the Mustang, Shawn Gibson, was transported to Erlanger Medical Center with minor injuries. The passenger of the Toyota 4 Runner, Brindley Mitchell, was taken to Erlanger for minor injuries. Investigators said the driver of the Toyota, Andrew Chestnut of Scenic Highway, had just received his drivers license three hours prior to the accident. Witnesses said it appeared the driver of the Mustang was racing another car. A woman said, "The yellow Mustang was racing a blue car. My husband and I were sitting on the deck at Las Margaritas and heard the cars screaming down the road beside us - so loudly we both stood up and watched as they passed. "The two cars were both going the same rate of speed and were trying to turn the curve. The Mustang was in front and we heard it screach out of control. We could not see the accident as it happened, but it was no doubt a race. "My husband drove to the accident and spoke with a police officer. Many witnesses did give accounts of seeing the blue car behind the Mustang." This is the city's seventh traffic fatality of the year.
