Man Facing Manslaughter Charges in Connection With Street Racing Deaths Source: WGRZ-TV A 21-year-old man from Lancaster has been arraigned on 2 counts of manslaughter and 2 counts of criminally negligent homicide in connection with a street race in May that left two people dead. Christopher Majek pled not guilty at his arraignment in Lancaster Town Court Tuesday morning. He was released on $10,000 bail. The Erie County District Attorney's office alleges that Mejak was the driver of a car that was racing another along Transit Road in Lancaster on May 8, 2008. The other vehicle lost control and crashed. Mark Harhigh, 24, and his girlfriend, Melanie Page, 21, were killed. Police say Harhigh was driving his 2002 Ford Mustang south on Transit Road when he lost control, crossed four lanes of traffic, and struck a utility pole. The force of the impact was so great that it split the Mustang into two separate pieces. "It was the scariest thing I have ever seen and I hope I never have to see anything like that again," said Stacey Fisher. She knew Mark well. She was at the accident right after it happened. And like many friends and classmates, Stacey took time to go back to the accident site the day after the accident with flowers and a few prayers. "I was just praying for their parents," said Fisher. "I thought how their parents were going to feel when they received that phone call." According to Harhigh's family, Mark had owned the car just two days. It's not the first tragedy to strike the family. Mark's mother, Toni, is currently battling brain and lung cancer. Because Mark had just started a new job, his health insurance was not yet active. Family members aren't sure how they can cover the medical expenses Mark incurred before he died, in addition to those currently mounting with his mother. To help, relatives have set-up a fund to help his parents. Donations can be taken to any Citizens Bank branch and deposited into the Mark Harhigh Memorial Fund.
