Drag race may have led to fatal Oneida St. crash
ASHWAUBENON – The 45-year-old De Pere woman involved in a crash that killed two 18-year-old women late Tuesday may have been drag racing against a teenage boy in the seconds leading up to the crash.
Detectives are “investigating allegations that drag racing may be a factor in this crash and will not release details of this investigation until it is complete,” Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department Lt. Jody Crocker said in a press release issued this afternoon.
Sources close to the investigation said investigators were seeking an area high school student who reportedly bragged to friends that he was racing a Porsche Boxster on South Oneida Street before the crash.
The boy stopped short of a red light at South Oneida and Willard Drive while Anrietta “Monique” Geske’s southbound Porsche continued through the red light, striking an eastbound Buick driven by Talhia Heroux, 18, of Brussels, a source said.
The impact crushed the Buick’s passenger compartment, killing Heroux and her passenger, Ashley Britsch-Knetzger, 18, of Allouez, instantly.
Ashwaubenon investigators are referring Geske to the Brown County district attorney’s office, seeking two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Each count carries up to 25 years in prison. Prosecutors are expected to evaluate the case and make a decision on charging Geske early next week.
Geske remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Crocker renewed his call for witnesses to come forward and call investigators at (920) 492-2995.
