VAN BUREN - The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a motorcycle accident that took the life of a Van Buren teenager.

The teenagers were supposedly video-taping a motorcycle street race to be placed on the internet, when things took a turn for the worse.

Around one thirty Wednesday morning, Crawford County deputies were called to a motorcycle accident on Thornhill Road off Highway 162 in Kibler.

According to investigators, the victim was struck by one of the racing bikes. He was taken to the hospital where he died. The driver of the motorcycle was also taken to the hospital and is still in critical condition.

According to Crawford County Deputies, for the past three months they have received complaints about motorcycles in that area drag racing and stunt riding. They patrolled the area for sometime and thought the riders were gone, but evidently they had returned.

Authorities say there was evidence of a make-shift drag-strip.

Ron Brown with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department says they believe the bike was going anywhere from 115 to 125 miles per hour.

Other than saying motorcycles are dangerous to begin with, Brown also says the investigation will determine future charges.

Brown says, “The spectators and witnesses have said that they were driving at a very high rate of speed, so we could be looking at some traffic offenses or, after we’re done with the investigations, there is a possibility there may be some criminal charges.”
