BOSTON -- The driver of a blue sedan who witnesses said was street racing before a fatal pileup has been charged with operating to endanger and speeding in connection with the crash.

Thomas Burke, 20, of Brockton, was driving west on Torrey Street on Tuesday night when he and another driver collided with two oncoming vehicles. Richard Falzone, the driver of the other vehicle who witnesses believe was racing against Burke, was killed in the crash. Burke was injured and had to be extricated from his vehicle. Two girls who witnesses said were approaching from the opposite direction as Burke and Falzone suffered massive head injuries when their car was struck. A priest from Stonehill College was driving the fourth car in the pileup. He was not injured.

Robert Teixeira, a resident who lives near the crash site, said he’s convinced Falzone was street racing the blue sedan when the two vehicles collided with cars heading the opposite direction. Teixeira said that the road is frequently the site of illegal racing. “This is definitely a little race game going on like they always do on this street, and it’s a shame because two innocent girls got really hurt,” said Teixeira. Teixeira said he was outside his home with friends when he saw the cars barreling down the road side-by-side.
